Pope Approves Automatic Excommunication

Q. Did the Pope actually decide recently to automatically excommunicate pro abortion politicians?

A. No…he did not just decide on this idea. The Mexican bishops have declared all politicians who voted to legalize abortion in Mexico City excluded from communion. Now those are bishops with backbone! When asked about the situation– if the Pope supported the decision of these Mexican Bishops the Pope simply said that he did support them. Why wouldn’t he support them since they “did nothing new, nothing arbitrary or surprising. They simply announced to the public what is stipulated by the law of the Church.” You can read the story here.

A declaration of excommunication is one thing. But it is the law of the church that anyone who actively participates in an abortion is automatically in a state of mortal sin and therefore may not approach communion in the body and blood of Our Lord. Politicians who vote to legalize abortion are actively participating in the murder of innocent life as a result of the law they voted for. Therefore, they are in a state of mortal sin and may not approach communion just like a girl who got an abortion, a doctor who performs an abortion, or a person who assists anyone to get an abortion.

  1. I know of some who twist this story to be about how much power the pope is lording over the flock. In doing so, many neglect to consider the real tragedy of abortions.
