Mary and the Saints Are Dead

Q. Didn’t jesus say that he would raise all people on the last day(jhn 6:40)? So how can you pray(ask) mary to pray to God as if she is in his presence yet she’s dead!

Bread From Heaven: Well, it is really very simple. We do not believe Mary and the Saints are dead. We believe that our bodies die but our souls are eternal. Our souls will never die. After death our soul goes immediately to be judged. We are then sent to Heaven (by way of a purification, if necessary) or Hell. At the end of time Jesus will resurrect our bodies and they will once again be joined to our souls in Heaven or Hell.

Even Jesus said,

Matthew 22:32 ‘I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

Therefore we do believe that Mary and all the Saints are in the very presence of God and are able to intercede for us. I hope this helps you understand.

  1. Does it feel like we repeat ourselves to protestants over and over. Here you have proof from scripture alone of the dead interceding for the living. Judaism:
There is evidence of a Jewish belief in intercession, both in the form of the paternal blessings passed down from Abraham to his children, and 2 Maccabees, where Judas Maccabaeus sees the dead Onias and Jeremiah giving blessing to the Jewish army.
    God Bless you all.
