Priest Scandal

Q. The priest scandal is not about homosexuality. You can’t redirect responsibility away from the church and instead target gays. Isn’t this about abusing children placed with trust in the care of the Catholic Church?

A. Yes, of course. However, I was not redirecting blame away from the guilty priests and bishops. I was clarifying the sin and pointing out the ulterior motives of the press in yesterday’s post. But, I am actually extremely pleased that regardless of the motives of the press God is using this whole affair all over the world to clean house and punish the wicked. He is purifying the Church.

And remember, Jesus promised that this sort of thing would happen in the world:

Matthew 13:24-43

Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 ‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn….’

36… His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.

37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

So, we see that Jesus predicted this sort of thing and we can trust Him and His True Church to triumph in the end.

Priest Scandal & Dangers of Confession

Q. After the recent church scandals, the priests should stay away from our children. Multi-generational epidemics of sanctioned and church protected pedophilia proves religion and children should not mix. The church should stay out of our bedrooms and work on correcting their own dysfunctional sexual urges. How can anyone allow children to go to confession with a priest?

A. I too am outraged by the abuse of authority exercised by our disordered priests who succumbed to EVIL. From what I have heard, these priests may have used the confessional as an opportunity to indulge their disordered lusts. Others may have used the confessions to pinpoint who might be susceptible to their overtures. Others simply abused trust. Sacrilege! Abominable! I really can’t think of words to express my indignation at the desecration of this beautiful sacrament instituted by Christ. And the spiritual and moral mutilation visited upon these trusting young people and their families.

However, we must remember that by far the majority of priests have been perfectly honorable, noble, and chaste. I have to admit that I am surprised by the prejudice of your comment. We would never lump all black people together and call them all criminal because some are, so that black people and “children should not mix.” Or lumping all Germans into the category of genocidal maniacs because Hitler and his people tried to exterminate the Jews sixty years ago, so therefore all Germans should be forbidden to have any access to Jewish people. This response to the priest scandal is not fair minded. Children have been sexually molested by their teachers. Should we ban all adults from teaching school? Of course this is absurd. Why does it only seem good and right to discriminate against priests?

The answer is because this is the influence of Our Enemy. We must remember that this life is all about where each soul will spend eternity. Our Enemy can kill the lives of many more souls by aiming his big guns at bishops and priests rather than your average men on the street. These priests will have to answer to God for their crimes but please, remember they may very well have undergone much more temptation focused upon them by the Enemy. Still they should have been prepared for these attacks and resisted unto death….but many failed. What we don’t know is how many priests have persevered and persevered to the end against these exact same temptations.

One correction is needed here. This was not an epidemic of pedophilia. In nearly every case these victims were adolescent boys. So, it was actually an epidemic of homosexual abuse of boys. But the press wants very much to attack the church but avoid putting homosexuality in a bad light. It found a way to this. Nearly every report characterized the priest scandal as a pedophile problem when in reallity it is a homosexual problem. And still, five years later, when it is clear that the majority of victims were boys, the homosexual roots of the abuse are being covered up in the media. And even though this is true, I still do not believe that all homosexuals molest boys.

And finally, we also need to remember that the Christian religion is all about love and forgiveness. Otherwise, we suffer with the bitterness of unforgiveness. We also need to remember that Our Father loves these priests just as much as anyone else. And just like a any good father He will discipline these men through the civil government and/or Purgatory if they are repentant or Hell if they are not repentant.

What Scriptural Evidence Is There Against Contrception?

Q. I would be interested to see biblical proof that God is against contraception. I know that Genesis 38:8-10 talks of Onan spilling his seed, but God was mad at Onan for not obeying him, I don’t believe it was necessarily the act he committed. If you read the verse prior in 6 & 7 it says that Judah’s firstborn was wicked so God put him to death. This is what he was indicating when he said he slew him too.

A.Yes, Onan too was wicked. But God did not kill Onan because he was generally a wicked man. God killed Onan for one reason. Onan partook of sexual pleasure with his brother’s wife but contracepted by spilling his seed. That was his explicit intent. Let’s see what Scripture actually says:

GENESIS 38:8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.” 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so the LORD put him to death also.

He was not obligated to give his brother’s wife an heir upon pain of death. God did not kill him b/c he didn’t want to give offspring to his brother. This is explicitly laid down in the Law. Punishment for not giving a dead brother offspring was a ceremony of humiliation, not death.

Deut 25:5When brothers live together and one of them dies and has no son, …Her husband’s brother shall go in to her and take her to himself as wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother to her 6“It shall be that the firstborn whom she bears shall assume the name of his dead brother, so that his name will not be blotted out from Israel 7“But if the man does not desire to take his brother’s wife, …8“Then the elders of his city shall summon him and speak to him. And if he persists and says, ‘I do not desire to take her, 9 then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the sight of the elders, and pull his sandal off his foot and spit in his face; and she shall declare, ‘Thus it is done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house. 10“In Israel his name shall be called, ‘The house of him whose sandal is removed.’

That is a far cry from execution.
Q. I also believe that God would not look down on a woman who prevents pregnancy because she has a medical condition that would either cause harm to her or the baby.

A. I agree with you.

Q. I had a friend who had 8 miscarriages because of a medical problem. It would be unwise for her to try for any more.

A. Unwise? If she just can’t bear another miscarriage or it would truly be a threat to her life, then her husband and she must agree out of charity to either adopt in order to have a child and/or abstain from intercourse during fertile times using NFP.
Q. I also have a friend who has a rare blood clotting disorder that endangers her life each time she gets pregnant. She has come close to dying with each child. After having her second child, she threw blood clots to her lungs and legs. They cannot give her any more medication for these clots again. If she has another child, she will sentence herself and her child to death. She will also leave her other two children motherless and her husband wifeless.

A. Then both her husband and she have a duty to avoid pregnancy. They may need to live as Mary and Joseph lived–in complete chastity, devoting themselves to God and their family in order to preserve the life of the mother. They will not die from abstinence. In fact, the self denial involved in this life will undoubtedly lead them closer to God, each other, and holiness.
Q. Yes she has faith, which is the reason she did not abort when so many specialist said it was the only way she could survive.

A. A noble, and holy woman.

Q. But, although we live by faith, we have to use common sense.

A. You mean that the husband should be allowed to indulge himself ?

And which methold of contraception would you stake your life on?

Abortion as a back up? Killing an innocent child just so they can have pleasure?

Q. I have faith that God will protect me, but I will not stand in the way of a moving train and expect to be saved from death.

A. Using contraception is not the only way to avoid possible death due to pregnancy. The holy thing to do is to abstain from sex for the sake of the mother. A good and noble man would do this.

This just in: January 13, 2009

New study links oral contraceptives to increased incidence of breast cancer. But will we hear about this in the politically correct press?
